Description
Brunel is a research intensive University and we are constantly working to deliver creative solutions to global challenges that bring economic, social and cultural benefit.

Two current projects that we are in need of funding to take forward are:
1) Research into food waste of 18-30 year olds. Did you know you shouldn’t put food waste into your normal waste bin? Food waste in landfill creates methane, a greenhouse gas 25 times stronger than carbon dioxide. Research has begun to develop mechanisms that could support change in attitudes that will support the UN’s goal of ‘halving food waste by 2030’.
2) Research into how climate change impacts human health in farming communities –a project between Brunel and the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. A team of climate scientists and human developmental biologists & toxicologist from the Caribbean & the UK have been formed to investigate the concerns of the families in local farming communities and look at ways to improve long-term health in the face of climate change.

During the last year, our researchers developed image analytics to help doctors diagnose lung x-rays more accurately for coronavirus, as well as devised a device and app that can tell people in 20 mins if they have Covid-19. Find out more at https://www.brunel.ac.uk/research/
